Yoshino Ikkyo | 吉野 一京
b.1928 Yorii-machi, Saitama Prefecture
About
Yoshino Ikkyo is renowned for his distinctive octagonal-shaped Kokeshi—a design he formally registered in Japan. His dolls often feature elegant young girls with long, straight black hair and short bangs, cascading gently over the shoulders. The kimono, delicately painted with an array of seasonal flowers, adds depth and beauty to each piece. In some works, the girl shyly covers part of her face with her sleeves, revealing just a glimpse of the obi beneath. Though subtle at first glance, the unique octagonal shape becomes strikingly evident when viewed from the base, showcasing Ikkyo's thoughtful craftsmanship and artistic intent.
