About👤
Seifu Gono’s Kokeshi are immediately recognizable for their impressive scale and signature okappa hairstyles, perhaps a nod to traditional bob cuts often seen in Tsugaru-style dolls. His technique is uniquely his own: he begins with a softly blended base that appears to be created using an airbrush, lending a luminous gradient effect to the wood. Over this, he layers bold floral motifs, often oversized and expressive, which evoke a sense of movement and vitality. Each piece is finished with a high-gloss lacquer, enhancing both the depth of color and the sculptural presence of the Kokeshi.
While little is publicly known about Gono’s personal background, his work speaks volumes, a fusion of modern technique and traditional form that stands out in the sōsaku Kokeshi landscape.
