AKA Sato Sachiko | Komura Kogei Co., Ltd.
About👤
Based in Fukushima, Kouson was one of the few nationally recognized female artists in the creative Kokeshi tradition. Working under the family’s company, Komura Kogei Co., Ltd., a small family business founded over 65 years ago and now helmed by Director Yoshimitsu Sato.
She brought bold expression and warmth to her hand-painted dolls. Her distinctive style blends soft, gentle faces with brushwork ranging from minimalist sumi-e to vibrant seasonal motifs like chrysanthemum, camellia, and autumn leaves. She often created large-scale dolls, and some feature rare Zodiac figures or textured chatter work.
Through both creative Kokeshi and the company’s natural spring water, Komura Kogei promotes wellness and joy. The beloved “good luck Kokeshi”, smiling widely, reflects Kouson’s belief in art’s power to heal and connect.
