Ishihara-san was born in Ginza, Tokyo and was originally registered as a traditional Nargugo Kokeshi Kijishi following the tradition after his grandfather, Iwataro Onuma. Ishihara-San found himself too restricted. He also fell ill for more than ten years. He used this time to study painting and when he recovered from his illness he began his transition to Sosaku Kokeshi. Winning over 60 awards including the "Prime Ministers Award". His Narugo Kokeshi are rare to find as he made very few of them. Ishihara-san did not turn his own Kokeshi Master Sato Masahiro turned the bodies that Ishihara-san would turn into masterpieces

1978 Visited Greek craftsmen in Athens
