He began creating creative Kokeshi in 1971 under the mentorship of Sekiguchi Sansaku. In 1977, he received his first major accolade—the Newcomer’s Award—at the National Modern Kokeshi Exhibition. His artistry continued to gain recognition, culminating in multiple honors, including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award in 1986 at the All-Gunma Modern Kokeshi Competition for his piece titled 祈り (Inori), meaning “Prayer.”
