Aida Yoshiki | 相田よしき
b.1953
About👤
Aida Yoshiki was born in Yonezawa, Yamagata. He is the son of Aida Seihō. Following in the artistic footsteps of his father, Aida Yoshiki predominantly works with hardwoods such as Enju (Pagoda tree) and Kabanoki (Birch). He carefully selects wood with striking natural grain, allowing the material’s inherent beauty to shape each piece. Rather than relying on vibrant pigments, Aida-san emphasizes the organic appeal of natural wood stains. His dolls are typically robust in form, favoring solid, thick bodies over slender silhouettes. Signature elements include voluminous, stylized hair and kimono patterns that are meticulously wood-burned rather than painted, reinforcing his deep respect for texture, tone, and traditional technique.
