He ran the famous workshop "Kokeshi no Kaganuma" in Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture, which is the historical heartland of Yajirō-strain Kokeshi. He began crafting Kokeshi around 1950 and became independent in 1973. He created Kokeshi for over 70 years and won Japan's highest honors, including the coveted Prime Minister’s Award (内閣総理大臣賞). He formally retired around 2021 at the age of 87.
