Nijushi no Hitomi or Twenty-Four Eyes is a Movie filmed
in Shodoshima, which translates to "small bean island" it is located on
the Seto Island Sea between Okayama and Takamatsu prefectures, with less
than 35,000 inhabitants. It is sometimes referred to at the Natural
Museum because of it's pleasant climate and thriving ecosystem. The
movie, originally a Novel written by Sakae Tsuboi, follows the life of a
Teacher and her first class of students as they grow up on the island
during the rise of Japanese nationalism and leading into WWII. The above images, from left to right, picture from the movie scene, next is the statue of "People in Peace" located in Tonosho Port and made of bronze, which reminds the people to wish for peace and happiness and greets people as they enter the port, the last is a Kokeshi souvenir rendition of 24 eyes, the teacher and her 12 students. ![]() |
