Welcome to my Dento-Traditional Kokeshi Collection, these dolls are not for sale. Traditional Kokeshi have been created in wood form since the late Edo (1603-1867) period in Japan. There are 10 prefectures which produce Traditional Kokeshi, with a few additional sub-strains.
NAKANOSAWA is a popular sub-strain, of the Tsuchiyu style. It was developed by dancer Iwamoto Zenkichi. Iwamoto settled in Nakanosawa which is a short pass from the Tsuchiyu Onsen. In 1920s the dancer created the doll in the likeness of a papier Mache dance figure he had used in one of his plays. ( 10 Images 10 Dolls ) Last updated 1/14/2014
